The territory of the municipality Měník was already settled long ago. Proof of the age of the settlement was the extensive burial grounds of urn fields of Silesian type discovered in 1888. In 1599, the farmstead and all of its fields, villages and dependents were purchased from Martin Měnicky of Červené Vsi (Červeněvsi) by the city Nový Bydžov. Serfs of Měník participated in a large rebellion in 1775 and forced the lords of Nový Bydžov’s city hall to divide the local farmyard. They became the owners of land already in the 1780s, stopped labouring and their work responsibilities were transferred into a financial reluice, which they paid until 1848.
